Automation Majors Ramp Up Recruiting in Q1
The research team at Automation JobSearch completed a global study of new job postings for engineering positions from the 7 leading Automation Contractors.
The data indicates a recent surge in new job postings, confirming that the Industrial Automation sector remains a strong job market.
After a subdued start to the year, there was a 100% increase in new job postings from major automation contractors towards the end of Q1. The data clearly indicates a strong global demand for engineers and technicians with skillsets in industrial automation.
How was the Study Done?
We monitored and analysed new positions posted online by seven major automation contractors during the first quarter of 2024. Utilizing a list of industry-specific keywords along with classification methods, we filtered the job postings for engineering and technical roles within the field of Industrial Automation. These roles include:
- Software Engineers for DCS, SCADA, and PLC programming
- Product Engineers for R&D and Backend Software Development
- Hardware Engineers for Industrial Control Systems
- Industrial Network Specialists
- Instrumentation Engineers and Technicians
The objective of the study was to determine the rate of increase or decrease in new job postings globally and to identify the key skill sets and requirements currently in demand. The companies selected for the study were made up of the 7 largest Automation Suppliers who are the current the market leaders in supplying and integrating industrial control systems.
Who is Hiring Automation Engineers Right Now?
As of the date of this publication (4th April 2024), there are over 2,000 open positions listed on automation suppliers career pages related to engineering and technician roles.
Honeywell currently has the highest demand with over 530 vacancies globally, followed by GE with 422 positions.
Top Countries for Industrial Automation?
As expected, the United States and India continue to have the highest demand for Automation professionals with significant number of job offerings.
Mainland Europe had significantly lesser job postings, suggesting that supply of qualified candidates may be stronger in that region.
India continues to perform strongly in export engineering services and many software development jobs are located there.
In March 2024 Emerson have posted over 20 positions for SIS, DCS and Hardware Engineers for their office in Nashik and Pune, indicating a continues strength as they continue to move more of their engineering resources service away from Europe and towards to Emerson export Engineering centres.
In addition over the same period Honeywell have posted several systems roles for their offices in Pune and Bangalore. GE have posted over 20 systems engineering roles for their Chennai and Noida offices.
Overall there remains good opportunities globally with positions available on all continents
Automation Jobs Opportunities in USA Now?
The largest demand for automation roles is in Ohio, with over 90 open positions, followed by Texas and Arizona.
In March 2024, General Electric (GE) posted over 50 engineering positions for their Evendale site in the Aerospace division. The positions needed include control Systems Engineers, Instrumentation and Software engineers, and Manufacturing engineers.
Rockwell is hiring roles related to product engineering for their Mayfield Heights site. The roles include Embedded Software Engineers, Application engineers, Functional Safety Engineers, and Test Engineers.
Additionally, Rockwell has posted multiple positions for software and hardware engineers at their Richland Center site in Wisconsin, which specializes in motor control (MCC) and power management.
Schneider has posted multiple positions at their Ohio facilities in Fairfield, Oxford, and West Chester. The positions are related to operations and maintenance, building automation, and manufacturing operations.
