Wood is proud to be awarded an initial three-year term contract by Newmont, the world’s largest gold mining firm.  Based in Brisbane, Queensland, you will support the capital works program for the Lihir gold mine in Papua New Guinea.  Working in a key engineering service contract, the focus of your role will be an integral role in our team, bringing your knowledge insight and passion for delivering quality and efficiency for our clients developments will be to create delivery excellence across the assigned project portfolio, provide certainty and confidence to the client and maintain robust control of project scope, schedule, cost and risk.
As part of the new contract with Newmont, Wood will provide consulting and engineering services to enhance the safe and efficient processing of gold across various stages of the project lifecycle including the delivery of concept and feasibility studies, detailed design, and construction management services.

Responsibilities

About the RoleReporting to the Functional Manager within Project Delivery alongside our Lihir Project director based in Brisbane, you will join an Australia wide team that is based in Perth & Brisbane. Newmont’s Lihir mine on Niolam Island, is 900km from Port Moresby and is one of the largest gold mines in Papua New Guinea – and the world.  It produced 670 Koz of gold in FY23 and employs about 5,100 people. As part of our project team, you will oversee a portfolio of diverse scopes as part of Newmont’s Capital Works programs. Presently the portfolio has provided our team a high volume of E&I scopes across varied packages involved in both the process/NPI infrastructure packages, therefore seeking those with an E&I discipline background. Please note this role will require ad hoc site travel across a year, but predominantly office based. As part of this role, key tasks and accountabilities will include: -Initiate and develop deliverables as defined by the Client or Clients representative working cohesively with the Project Manager Contributes to and reviews the project proposal and/or consolidated plan to determine timeframe, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.Keeps the Project Sponsor/Customer and other stakeholders informed about project status and issues that may impact customer relations, flagging early signs of schedule or budget changes font leading opportunity to engage in corrective actionEnsures wider team understand relevant engineering and HSES procedures and standards and maintains required compliance.Anticipates and takes pre-emptive action to address potential conflict situations that may impact on project delivery  At Wood you will join an inclusive and diverse global community of inquisitive minds and recognised industry innovators, partnering to create new possibilities.

Qualifications

About YouThis opportunity is looking for those who are interested in building their engineering careers in resources sector, ready to take on their next challenge working with global leading large-scale projects & portfolio engineering support for sustaining capital work programs.   You will also have: -Tertiary engineering qualifications from a recognised university within Electrical EngineeringExperienced Project Engineer, who has worked across portfolio/multiple package management Prior experience on site with exposure to brownfield packages, depth of knowledge in operations across process and NPI infrastructure. Those with experience in wet plant processing facilities would be desired not essential.Experienced in the coordination of multi discipline activities to meet project objectives/timelines, whilst being aware of commercial contractual requirements.Passionate about aligning client/project needs in partnership with Wood Project Management principals.Knowledge of standards, procedures and work practices; following project execution flow chart; developing skills in project and technical execution. Ability to lead and mentor internal and external stakeholders to reach project deliverables whilst working in a dynamic and agile environmentPlease note, only applicants holding valid working rights in Australia will be considered.   It takes a diverse and inclusive community of inquisitive minds to unlock tomorrow’s solutions to the world’s most critical challenges.
