We’re working with a respected engineering-led organisation in the industrial and process sectors, looking to hire a technically skilledInstrumentation & Control Operatorfor their permanent team in Hampshire. This role is suited to candidates with hands-on design experience in control and instrumentation (C&I), especially those familiar with hazardous areas and control system programming.
You’ll work across the full lifecycle—design, procurement, operations support, and contractor management—making it a varied and challenging role with real technical impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
• Interpret and produce basic engineering drawings related to the C&I discipline.
• Apply instrumentation and control design knowledge in live industrial environments.
Hazardous Areas
• Design electrical equipment installations for hazardous areas in compliance with ATEX/DSEAR.
• Either hold CompEx 12A & 12B certification or have practical experience working under the same procedures.
Control Systems
• Strong understanding or hands-on experience with at least two IEC 61131-3 standard PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block, structured text).
• Apply knowledge of industrial control systems within project delivery.
Operational Support & Risk
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA reviews, and maintain strong awareness of operational risk management practices.
• Provide field troubleshooting and support to operations and maintenance teams.
Contractor & Procurement Management
• Prepare specifications and work scopes for contractor engagement.
• Raise purchase orders, liaise with suppliers, and review QA documentation.
• Supervise contractor activities and ensure compliance with site safety and permit systems.
Requirements:
• Minimum 2 years of design experience in instrumentation & control (I&C/C&I).
• Solid understanding of electrical systems in hazardous areas; CompEx 12A/12B beneficial.
• Knowledge of industrial programming standards and practices.
• Experience in operational risk tools (HAZOP, LOPA, RAMS).
• Confident managing suppliers, contractors, and equipment procurement.
• Must be eligible to work in the UK without restriction.
