Position Purpose
To support the Lead Instrument Engineer in delivering high-quality design outputs in alignment with project requirements, industry standards, and organizational procedures. The role involves preparing, reviewing, and managing engineering deliverables during all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
• Prepare and update engineering specifications, calculations, and deliverables (e.g., Instrument Index, IO Lists, Datasheets).
• Perform and manage instrument sizing, selection, and third-party studies.
• Use and maintain the Instrument Engineering Database to ensure data accuracy.
• Conduct technical bid evaluations and clarifications for instrument systems.
• Review and approve vendor documents and drawings.
• Support detailed design including hookups, layouts, wiring, and routing.
• Interface with other disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.) and support teams such as Procurement and Planning.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) as required.
• Provide assistance during construction and commissioning phases.
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure that all designs comply with project standards, regulatory codes, and quality practices.
• Monitor and validate drawings prepared by designers/drafters.
• Retain proper documentation for traceability and audit purposes.
Project & Site Support
• Conduct onshore and offshore site visits and prepare corresponding reports.
• Support construction teams and field vendors during project execution.
• Assist in resolving technical issues during execution phases.
Profile Requirements
Must Have:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering (BEM accredited or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years of instrumentation and control design experience, with at least 2 years in Oil & Gas projects.
• Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) or equivalent.
• Experience in both onshore and offshore projects, including FPSO, FLNG, or FPU.
• Proficient in SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or Aveva Engineering System.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Good to Have:
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience in vendor/OEM interaction, bid preparation, and evaluations.
• 2+ years working with OEMs, system integrators, or field instrument vendors.
• Awareness of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) and HFE (Human Factors Engineering) standards.
