Location: Manchester, UK (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days per week in office)

Summary:
We’re currently seeking a skilledPrincipal Instrument & Control Engineerto join a leading engineering consultancy based in Manchester. This hybrid role offers the chance to work on exciting and future-focused projects in the carbon capture and hydrogen sectors, as well as across a range of industries including water, energy, green energy, nuclear, and oil and gas.
You’ll take a hands-on leadership role in projects from concept studies through detailed design, contributing to a diverse, technically challenging, and rewarding workload.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical input on instrumentation and control engineering for projects and proposals.
• Prepare, review, and approve key engineering documents and deliverables.
• Assign tasks to discipline staff and monitor progress to ensure timely and quality delivery.
• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and graduate team members.
• Deliver high-quality control and instrumentation outputs, ensuring client satisfaction.
• Ensure all engineering activities meet national/international standards and company/client procedures.
• Prepare equipment requisitions for control systems, safety systems, analyser houses, and field instruments.
• Develop installation scopes of work.
• Review supplier quotations and lead technical bid evaluations for instrumentation packages.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, or related discipline).
• Strong background in EPC environments and major engineering consultancies.
• Proven experience leading instrumentation work across full project lifecycles.
• Hands-on project delivery experience in the energy sector (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen, oil & gas, or renewables).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices.
