Job Description

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Telecom Engineer in our Projects Business Unit, this position is located in either our Calgary, Edmonton, Oakville, Sarnia or Vancouver offices.

This role involves the design of various Telecommunication systems for both Oil and Gas as well as Transmission and Distribution projects from conception to construction. If you have a successful track record and thrive on challenges in a fast-paced environment, this is the opportunity for you.

Responsibilities

Perform engineering design for Telecom systems for Oil and Gas as well as Transmission line and Substation projects.Work with communication systems in power utility environment, including Microwave Radio, Fibre Optics, SONET/SDH/DWDM, Satellite System, WiMax, High Voltage Entrance Protection, Power Line Carrier communication, Teleprotection, and telecom power systems.Prepare calculations for 48 VDC telecom power systems and prepare fibre optic cable designs. Develop engineering documents, schematics, and design diagrams for Telecom systemsCreate billd of materials (MTO) for all telecom equipment and hardwarePrepare and review engineering documents, specifications, and inspection and testing procedures.Coordinate with other disciplines as required Respond to information requests (RFI’s) from site and complete project documentation including as-builts and calculations.Work within assigned budgets and schedules.

It will take all of us working together to deliver solutions to the world’s most critical challenges.  Expected:Engineering Degree or Diploma from a recognized university or College6+ years of Telecom Engineering/Design experience developing Telecom Engineering Design Packages from an Oil and Gas, Mining, Transmission and Distribution (T&D) or Substation backgroundProven knowledge of SONET/SDH/DWDM, PDH, TDM, Microwave radio, fibre optic, WIMAX, VSAT, Ethernet layer 2 and 3 protocols, TCP/IP/MPLS networks is an asset.Knowledge Structured Cabling System for commercial and industrial facilities, DPABX, UHF-DMR, security (video, etc.) and access control systemsAuthorization to lawfully work in Canda without sponsorship from Wood now or in the future is requiredDesirable:North American power utility design experience is an assetRegistration through APEGA/EGBC (or eligible for provincial transfer) as a P.ENG/P.L. (ENG) is an asset
