Wood is seeking an experienced Senior Substation Engineer in Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB to join our busy and growing Oil, Gas and New Energies Canada team due to growth in our business!

Responsibilities

To carry out duties and responsibilities as assigned by the lead electrical engineer
Execute engineering activities (Concept, Front End Engineering Development, Technical Study & Detailed Design)
Act as a discipline focal point as required.
Maintain the required technical quality of work.
Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures
Develop Sub-Station layout and preliminary design documentation.
Review, check and approve work output of discipline assigned personnel as required
Prepare High Voltage structure layout and of high-voltage switchyard equipment and control panels specification.
Prepare equipment specifications and design of High Voltage disconnect Switch, High Voltage/Medium Voltage Circuit Breaker, High Voltage Power Transformer, Medium Voltage Bus, Communications equipment, SCADA interface specification and design.
Preparation of Electrical Physical design packages consisting of One-line, Site Plan, Electrical Plan & Sections, Grounding Plan & Details, Conduit Plan & Details, Control House Plan, Control House Grounding Plan & Details, Lighting Plan, Lightning Protection Plan and Bill of material (BOM)
Grounding design per IEEE 80 and latest software tools
Lightning Shielding Studies
Insulation Coordination study
Cost estimates and Material take offs
Provide construction and commissioning support as required

Qualifications

Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university 
Minimum of 10 years engineering experience, including minimum of 5 years experience with 240KV Utility substations in BC
Experience in an electrical utility environment is must.
Professional Engineer designation with EGBC and in Alberta
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) as well as BC Hydro system (and applicable utility in BC). 
240kV Switch station experience is must.
