Wood is recruiting for a Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer / Consultant to join our team based centrally in our new office in Brisbane.  This role is offered on a permanent staff basis and reports to the Operations Manager – Integrity Management.

Responsibilities

As our successful candidate you will quickly be involved in providing consulting and engineering solutions, understanding the issues of key clients and responding by delivering improved outcomes while balancing integrity, performance and cost.     

You will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:  

Understand customer needs and applies technical solutions to deliver expectations and seeks to create value to the customer at all times
Ensure successful completion of the assigned project / phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints
Evaluate problems, reviews standards and specifications, develops work execution tasks to solve technical consulting challenges for components, equipment, systems and processes
Check Engineering calculations, reporting deliverables and data analysis tools in accordance with the scope definition and industry codes and standards
Assist with the development of technical professionals
At times lead, and otherwise participate in site visits, project review meetings, progress meetings and other workshops as required
Anticipates potential problems and takes the initiative to solve complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise
Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches
Completes all required tasks in accordance with Wood QMS requirements using the current determined tools and processes

Project Management: 

Manage one or more small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resources allocation and risk
Accountable for project delivery; to meet, or ideally exceed, clients’ expectations with regards to Budget, Schedule and Deliverable Quality

Account Management and Winning Work: 

May lead and support development of client relationships, up to Team Lead level, and client account management activities 
May lead, otherwise provide technical input and support to proposals as required

Supporting and Supervising Task Delegation to Team: 

May supervise a small work group consisting of technical/professional staff with some coaching from own senior team members, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialization to others
Assist in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals 

Contributes to Team Culture: 

Provide appropriate HSSE&S leadership including compliance with travel, site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirements 
Provide appropriate Operational Excellence leadership ensuring compliance with quality management standards and tools 
Provides positive leadership (CARE, COMMITMENT, COURAGE); listen to others, displays empathy, respects others opinions and beliefs and strives to add to an environment where all team members want to be a part of
Knowledgeable of innovation projects within the local office and wider business unit. Ideally contribute ideas to innovation funding requests and may lead delivery on an innovation project
Actively seeks and promotes workshare collaboration on projects and opportunities

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

Degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering from an accredited University, Masters (preferred), alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence 
Further qualification in Commerce / Business / Data Analytics or previous commercial exposure would be advantageous 
Chartership or relevant professional engineer status accredited by a national or industry engineering institution preferred

Minimum Experience:  

Requires mature professional knowledge and extensive progressive experience in Oil and Gas and /or Power Engineering  
Typically requires 6 to 10+ years progressively more responsible pertinent experience; developing your area, and knowledgeable about impacts on other areas  

Role-Specific Skills and Knowledge:  

Proficient user of relevant software and calculation templates
Professional level of ability in the application of standards, processes and procedures and how they are used in work execution  
Professional level of knowledge of applicable codes and standards  
Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards 
Maintains own knowledge of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promotes to direct reports  
Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication  
Demonstrated proficiency in project planning 
Possess a working knowledge of the various Business Units, Functions, Sectors and services offered within business area, and general understanding of other Wood business offerings. Seek opportunities to bring in wider Wood business to create greater client value or stronger Wood offering
