Job Description

Summary:

This is technical leadership position within a Rockwell Automation’s product R&D organization reporting to Senior Manager, Power and Embedded Control Systems. Setting the foundation for future generations of Rockwell’s power control business product portfolio. You will lead development of system firmware architectural specifications for new products, optimizing and balancing the following goals: product cost, performance, security, simplicity, time to market, reusability, maintainability, safety, and overall user experience at launch and throughout a product’s lifecycle. This role is systems architecture role involving designing solutions that work for multiple products in our portfolio and supporting product architects to refine details for specific products.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design embedded systems architecture, functional interfaces and define system integration requirements, while partnering with other functional architects to deliver new product concepts that support a common architecture vision strategy. Lead teams within the organization to solve architectural and implementation problems.
• Stay abreast on current and accelerating new technologies, best practices, and contemporary embedded software engineering tools and methodologies.
• Design embedded software subsystems that balance the following goals: run-time performance, memory requirements, simplicity, development time and effort, reusability, extendibility, reliability, and safety. Review the subsystem and system designs of others for possible effects on system performance.
• Collaborate with peer architects and subject matter experts to facilitate delivery of simplified and unique products and solutions that solve real-world customer problems at the best cost points.
• Create system and product level architectural documents that explain the functionality and interfaces between components at the right level for implementation by engineering.
• Create proof of concept deliverables, define logical work sequencing, and map a clear process for product integration.
• Be an independent voice in liaising between product management and functional/technical leads within the business to clarify requirements, understanding concepts and issues, and resolving problems and anomalies. Influence decisions within multiple teams across Rockwell Automation.
• Provide firmware design guidance for Industrial Ethernet and field bus protocols that are common in the drives industry.
• Develop a product, system, and customer view. Be an abstract thinker and step away from the details to look at “the big picture” and conveys architectural vision.
• Demonstrate expertise through customer support, presentations, and white papers
• Experience mentoring and developing talent.

The Essentials – You Will Have:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
• Legal authorization to work in the US or Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred – You Might Also Have:

• Typically requires 8+ years system level design experience in embedded real-time control systems, inter-processor communications, and multi-layered control architecture.
• Eight years working as a design lead/ technical leader who builds partnerships in a matrixed environment and organizes and directs the activities of other employees.
• Experience with operational product/system functional interactions within products using multiple engineering disciplines such as: Power, Control, Electrical/ Mechanical, Digital Hardware, FPGAs, Firmware, Communications, Safety, Security, and connected Software Tools or User Interfaces.
• Experience specifying and developing high quality, maintainable software subsystems or systems at a high rate of productivity.
• Competency with object-oriented analysis and design as well as real-time development using the C/C++ language required.
• Understand how customers use motor drive products and how they fit into target applications and system environments.
• Understand the competitive landscape for our technology and products.
• Graduate degree in Computer Science, network/product security, Computer Engineering, or equivalent in-depth knowledge and experience.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation products such as PowerFlex, ControlLogix, Studio 5000, Kinetix
• Provide design guidance on embedded deployments of wireless technologies such as NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, and wired technologies such as USB, RS-485, SPI, and Ethernet.
• Familiarity with the following tools and languages: Green Hills Integrity OS and Multi IDE, TI DSP programming using Code Composer Studio.
• Experience with homogeneous and heterogeneous multi-core microcontrollers – employing both AMP & SMP implementations. Practical experience with hypervisors/containers.
• Experience with a broad range of embedded environments – from bare-metal implementations to simple schedulers, all the way to high-performance commercial real-time operating systems.

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is from 136,800.00 – 205,200.00 USD with an annual target bonus of 8% of base salary. Our company benefits for the US can be foundhere. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
