THIS POSITION REPORTS TO
R&D Unit Lead
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an R&D Electrical Engineer, you will utilize your extensive skills and technical expertise to develop, enhance and validate UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) products according to the most advanced technology available, in order to satisfy the mission critical power protection product market specification. Reporting to R&D Hardware Chapter Lead, based in Quartino Switzerland, you will contribute significantly to initiatives related to ABB’s Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) products. • Technology Awareness & Customer Value: Stay updated on state-of-the-art technology and ABB products, understand technical drivers for R&D projects, and work to improve operations and customer satisfaction. • Problem Solving & Coordination: Innovate solutions, drive root cause analysis, and coordinate with relevant functions to resolve technical issues and improve R&D efficiency. • Compliance & Reporting: Follow quality standards and safety regulations, write technical reports, and ensure Bill of Material (BOM) meets contractual obligations. • Innovation & Mentorship: Contribute innovative ideas to complex R&D assignments, work independently, and mentor junior team members. • Networking & Support: Build internal and external networks, provide technical advice, and support other functions to achieve organizational goals.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in in Electrical Engineering, as well as more than five years work experience in electrical engineering.
• Must have experience working with electrical systems or demonstrate the aptitude to learn complex power electronic systems.
• Experience in digital and analog circuit design and simulation
• Experience with low voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, MOSFET’s and Diodes), gate drive and protection.
• Comprehensive knowledge of ECN’s (Engineering Change Notifications), BOM’s (Bill of Materials), and documentation systems.
• Experience with failure investigations and Root Cause & Corrective Action Analysis (RCCA).
• Collaborative team player.
• Knowledge and experience with Agile methodology is a plus.
• Fluent in English, spoken and written.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
