Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to join a leading engineering operation working across critical industrial sectors. This is a key opportunity for someone who thrives on developing safety strategies, navigating regulatory environments, and shaping a proactive safety culture within high-hazard industries.
You’ll bring a strong grounding in UK regulations such as COMAH and DSEAR, with the confidence to lead safety assessments, investigations, and audits. If you’re motivated by solving complex safety challenges, influencing change, and working across multidisciplinary teams, this role will give you the platform to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership on all matters relating to process safety
• Advise on hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety-critical elements
• Drive emergency preparedness, incident investigation, and change management processes
• Interpret and apply legislation and industry standards (e.g. COMAH, DSEAR)
• Conduct and lead audits and reviews related to safety systems
• Support and influence safety leadership culture and human factors integration
• Collaborate across departments to improve compliance, awareness, and safety performance
Required Skills and Experience:
• Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 8 years of post-graduate experience in a process-intensive industry
• In-depth understanding of process plant operations and safety systems
• Experience in preparing and submitting COMAH reports
• Skilled in analysing risk and facilitating technical safety discussions
• Proficient in interpreting PFDs and P&IDs
• Demonstrated knowledge of safety codes, regulations, and best practices
• Chartered status with IChemE or similar (or working towards)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of working in a matrix environment
