Job Description

Wood is currently recruiting for a Instrument & Control Engineer to be based in the EPC Contractor’s office in Paris for the duration of detailed engineering which is currently estimated for 18 months delivering the scope of the clients project.  The I&C Engineer will ensure that deliverables are consistent with safe, cost effective and competitive projects and conforms to Projects EPC contract and selected codes and standards.
The Instrument & Control Engineer contributes to performance management of the EPC Contractor and specifically of the vendors; and delivers specific aspects of the Instrument & Control scope. This includes engineering activity specifically regarding Greenfield design and the verification of the Contractor design deliverables as per contract and verification plan.

Responsibilities

Provides technical guidance and verification of all Instrument, Controls discipline activities performed by Contractor Ensures technical end to end solutions for controls, safety and F&G systems are designed and integrated Works with Contractor during design, package bid evaluation to provide project technical integrity verification Review of Engineering Contractor scopes of work and man-hour estimates for specialist discipline activities as requiredExperience with HAZOP / LOPA risk assessment and quantification processesExperience with engineering safety instrumented systems in accordance with industry standardsEnsures that project functional specification and scope of works requirements are deliveredPlanning ahead to ensure part time and shared client / IPMT specialist resources are requested well in advance as required  Technical query resolutionTechnical risk management and mitigationMaintains a working knowledge of all relevant codes, standards, and regulations that pertain to project Instruments, control & safety systems and metering disciplineProvides input to the engineering content of key project detailed engineering documents produced by the ContractorSupports and in some case own the engineering content for discipline relevant Tier 3 decisionsOversees the application of project selected engineering codes, standards and practicesReviews discipline relevant deviations raised by Contractor and recommend as required to the client Lead I&C EngineerSupports integration activities with the Main Automation Contractor (MAC) Work with the lead electrical engineer to support the interface between the electrical switchgear systemsRequired to work with other core disciplines like Process, Process Safety, Mechanical to verify integrated designs, e.g., control narratives, F&G layouts, ESD hierarchy, model reviews etcSupports the client PCC Engineering Manager with discipline specific day to day detailed engineering technical challengesReports into the client Lead I&C Engineer’s team 

Qualifications

Essential Education:Degree in Electrical/  Electronics Engineering or related Engineering discipline or equivalent experienceChartership / PE status requiredEssential experience and job requirements:Extensive years of I&C related experienceExperienced in contractor management and project delivery in detailed engineering phase of a major projectExperience with integration of package vendor systems Deep discipline expertise with good track record of multi discipline integration Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is deliveredTrack record of delivery and able to demonstrate effective project technical management and leadership skillsMust have strong general experience with control & safety systems, Fire & Gas systems, digital security, valves, equipment packages controls and interfaceAbility to engage and work with projects personnel, stakeholders, contractors and suppliersRecent experience of working with and influencing EPC contractorsAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of the project team, Contractors and project leadershipPlanning, organizational and prioritization skillsDemonstrated safety focus with a commitment to continuous improvement in HSSE performanceExcellent self-motivation and self-direction with limited guidanceWorks well with others, able to give and receive constructive feedbackDesirable criteria and qualifications:Previous experience with working on the client side of a major greenfield project deliveryPrevious experience on major greenfield projects in an engineering capacity with large EPC ContractorsCertified Functional Safety Engineer – TUV, Exida etc.
