JOB OVERVIEW:
The Medical Device Testing Intern’s role is to gain exposure to various testing applications and equipment. This role will be located at the MSI Flagstaff, AZ office. Testing interns will learn and have some responsibility for lab-based tasks, which include sample processing, contract testing, measuring, recording, analyzing results and generating reports on MSI equipment within house or customer product. The intern will learn how to operate Machine Solutions equipment and use this knowledge to support customer visits and training as well as perform quality inspections to ensure equipment meets operational specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Learns MSI’s testing equipment and laboratory processes.
• Supports sample processing and basic contract testing activities, including measuring, recording, and analyzing test data.
• Performs routine testing tasks under supervision to help produce consistent samples and data.
• Assists in preparing testing documentation and reports, including entering data into Excel and generating simple charts and graphs.
• Observes and contributes to discussions on process improvement and equipment troubleshooting.
• Supports customer visits and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) by preparing samples or materials as directed.
• Participates in cross-functional teamwork with Quality Control and Aftermarket teams on testing and re-certification tasks.
• Assists with basic quality assurance tests on machines and software as needed.
• Follows all safety standards and procedures while working in the lab and shop areas.
• Keeps work area clean and organized; responsible for tools and workstation assigned during internship.
• Perform other tasks and projects assigned in support of the department.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will work consistently throughout the school year, including any breaks if possible. This is a multiyear internship, we are welcoming candidates who are potentially starting Junior year to gain experience in the engineering function of the business as a student.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or related technical field.
• Previous lab, workshop, or hands-on experience preferred but not required.
• Enjoys working with their hands and the challenge of finding unique solutions to meet our customer expectations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Willingness to learn technical tools and processes.
• Strong attention to detail and good organizational habits.
• Basic understanding of data collection and analysis.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Drive for hands-on technical work, including mechanical assembly and test setup.
• Willingness to follow instructions, ask questions, and contribute to team goals.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to draft reports and business correspondence.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures.
• Mechanical aptitude focused on intricate details.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands of the role involve prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, using a computer, and engaging in repetitive hand movements for tasks like typing or writing. Frequent standing, walking, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds may be required. This role may also include frequent use of standard office equipment such as printers, copiers, and telephones. Good hearing and manual dexterity are essential for safely performing tasks and ensuring product quality. Vision requirements are the ability to adjust focus and identify and distinguish colors.
The work environment for this role is primarily an office setting located near a manufacturing facility. While the office is climate-controlled and typically quiet, occasional exposure to noise, vibrations, or odors from the nearby production area may occur. Interns may need to enter the manufacturing floor occasionally, requiring adherence to safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
