Wood is currently recruiting for expressions of interest for Instrument Designer (ID) to support across various high-profile projects in the UK. The ID will join our Systems Integration team within our Digital Consulting business.
Our Systems Integration (SI) team operate across UK; therefore, the role can be based at any of the following UK offices; Aberdeen, Staines, Reading, Glasgow or Northampton on a hybrid basis.
Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role
Due to growth across our SI business, we are looking for expressions of interest from Instrument Designers in relation to upcoming project awards for 2025.
We are seeking to speak with individuals who have previous experience in CAD Instrument Drafter within Automation and Controls projects. You will have the ability to solve complex technical challenges to meet the needs of your clients while being able to work with minimal direct supervision and have experience of taking site surveys.
As an experienced Instrument Designer, you will work closely with the project Instrument Design Engineers to design all the instrument and control works assigned and ensure all drafting works are completed in accordance with the approved project schedule, standards and within allocated man-hours.

Responsibilities
The key objectives for this role are:Responsible for ensuring compliance with client specifications and engineering standardsWorking alongside the Senior EC&I Engineers to ensure scope changes are capturedResponsible, in co-operation with the Senior EC&I Engineers / PEMs, for the production of all conceptual designs, design schemes and detail drawings and associated design documentationMaintains compliance with Engineering Standards and applicable legislationTo have participation in Design Reviews where they are to ensure that subsequent designs are captured, and drawings updatedEnsuring the confidentiality and security of data and information received from clientsLiaise with the Senior EC&I Engineers to ensure effective project delivery to timeMaintain a general overview of their project and provide some direction on project progress.Read and fully understand Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), Loop drawings, ISOs, wiring and hook-up diagramsDemonstrates proficient skills in CAD utilizing client’s current version of AutoCad and Document Management SystemsDemonstrates knowledge of ISA and Piping, Loop drawings, ISOs symbologyProficient in identifying in field; instruments, mechanical equipment and piping componentsAbility to apply client Engineering Standards as part of day-to-day technical support of assignmentsAbility to interpret Engineering mark-ups and accurately make drawing correctionsAbility to field as-built P&IDs, Loop drawings, ISOs, wiring and hook-up diagrams relative to design of project scope and/or common field changes for Project Closures

Expected:Educated to HNC / HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline or a chartered engineering & member of an appropriate instituteIndustrial experience working in; P&ID, Loop drawings, ISOs DraftingProficiency in AutoDesk AutoCAD and MS products; Teams, Word, Excel and OutlookPrevious site experienceExperience of localised guaranteed non interruptible suppliesUnderstanding of Fibre Optic systemsKnowledge of CIMAGE & 4G Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills at all levels of the business
