HV Substation Commissioning Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the commissioning engineer is responsible for ensuring all site testing, commissioning and installation activities are carried out to the highest standards of Health, Safety and Quality and in a manner that safeguards the Environment. This includes maintaining compliance with GE Grid and their clients policies and procedures, in addition to UK and international regulation.

• ToensurethatallsitecommissioningactivitiesareundertakeninfullcompliancewithGEGridandclientpoliciesandprocedures,inadditiontotheUKandinternationallegislation.
• Totest,commissionand serviceinstalledprimaryandsecondaryequipmentduringconstructionandin-service substationoperations.
• Toeffectivelymanageand supervisestaffin ordertoexecuteprojectsinlinewithClientandGEexpectations,programmesandbudget.
• Toensureaccurateon-sitetestrecords,reportsandqualitydocumentationarecreated,maintainedandcirculatedinaccordancewithGEinternalgovernanceandGEqualityplans.
• Toeffectively supervise,trainandmentorotherassignedcommissioningstaffintheroleofSiteCommissioningEngineer
• AbletotravelthroughoutUKandgloballyasandwhenrequired.

sponsibilitiesandAccountabilities

Operations:

• Promotesafeworkingpracticesandcontinualimprovementinsitesafelyculture
• Responsiblefortheeffectiveandefficienttestingandcommissioning of substationequipmentensuringthatagreedworkiscarried outinaccordancewiththepre-settimescalesandcosts.
• Effectively undertake operationalresponsibleforthedailymanagementand settingtowork ofsitecommissioning fieldresourcesin ordertomaximizethepotentialfor successfulProjectdelivery.
• Responsibleforthepreparation,creationandissue ofSitedocumentationincludingbutnotlimitedtoRAMS(RiskandMethodStatement), NCR’s(Non-conformanceReport), TQ’s(TechnicalQueries)inaccordancewithapprovedprocessesandprocedures.
• InformingSiteManager /ProjectEngineerofsitenon-compliances.
• ResponsibleforreportingtotheSiteManager /ProjectManagerandCommissioningManager.
• Responsibleforenactingtherole ofLVAuthorisedPerson(Advanced)whenapplyingGELVPermitsystems.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge and experience in the field of Site Commissioning.
• Capable of working independently in problem solving and decision making.

• Demonstrate adequate skills in interpretation, optimization and application of company policies and / or own discipline to achieve key deliverables.

Education/Qualifications:

Bachelor’sdegreeinElectricalEngineering /HNDinElectricalEngineeringorEquivalent.

SpecificKnowledge:

Experience knowledgeofSubstationProtectionSystemsandequipment. Testing &Commissioning ofHVandLVSwitchgearandEquipment.

Faultfinding onprotection schemesandGEequipment.

Computerliterate.

Businessunderstanding:

KnowledgeandexperienceofConstructionandFieldServices sitework.

• ExperienceinthetestingandcommissioningofHVPower systemsequipment.
• Experienceinactivitiesrelatedtothetestingand validation ofanequipment,facilityorplantinaccordancewiththedesign objectives orspecificationsfor operationaluse.
• ExperienceinSCADAsystemsaswellastechnical skillsusingPC /DSAgile/Aview software.
• ExperienceincommunicationwithProtectionandcontrol systemaswell3rdparty IEDssystemintegration.
• Siteexperience,workingatheightandworkingin aconstructionenvironment.
• Knowledge oftheConstruction(DesignandManagement)Regulations.
• Abilitytocommunicateeffectively,bothinternallyandexternally.
• 5 years’experienceintestingandCommissioningof substationequipment(Generation,transmissionanddistribution).
• Knowledgeandexperienceofworkingin aHVSubstationenvironment.
• KnowledgeandexperienceofworkingonOffshoreWindfarmenvironments.
• Goodknowledgeandexperienceof IEC61850protocol,Modbus, IEC101, IEC104andIEC103.
• Knowledge &experience ofGEMicomandMultilinproductswillbeanaddedadvantage.
• Knowledgeandexperienceworkingwithvarioustestequipment suchasOmicron,Sverker,ProgrammaandMegger.
