Responsibilities
Work with clients and vendors to create electrical solutions for mining and mineral processing.
Work independently or within a team of engineers and designers. Mentor junior staff.
Check the design work of others and provide technical feedback.
Review and/or develop and take responsibility for the electrical designs required in a detailed engineering project, including but not limited to schematic and wiring diagrams, single line diagrams, cable tray, lighting, equipment layouts, heat tracing, electrical lists, power quality and protection studies, and calculations to support designs.
Prepare equipment procurement packages, including the development and/or review of specifications and datasheets, evaluate technical bids, meet with vendors and review vendor documentation.
Assist in the preparation of construction contracts including development of electrical installation specifications and scope of work.
Attend client meetings, obtain measurements and collect data at job sites as required.
When required, lead a team of electrical engineers and designers on a project including:
Coordinate electrical design work and technical input across a project wide, multi-discipline design to ensure cost effective, efficient, safe and timely completion of the project.
Participate in the development of scope, budgets, and schedules.
Coordinate the project’s electrical team by managing design work packages, deadlines and budget. Ensure quality by monitoring that team’s deliverables meet client and company standards.
Provide regular reporting to management and client regarding the electrical team progress and performance with respect to scope, schedule and budget.
Qualifications
Electrical Engineering (BSc) degree with completed course in power systems is required.
Must be registered as an Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Saskatchewan or have the ability to transfer Canadian PEng from another province.
Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required.
8 years of engineering experience, preferably in supporting consulting projects for mining, metallurgical or similar process industries.
Knowledge of CSA and IEEE standards including the Canadian Electrical Code and Saskatchewan Amendments, and how to apply them to designs.
Experience as a project discipline lead overseeing a team of technical professionals and managing scope, schedule, cost, quality, and design of electrical projects.
Effective communication, organization and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment. Must have the ability to balance the workload in order to meet multiple deadlines.
Everyday use of Navisworks, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Team player, but also able to work independently and take responsibility.
Other Skills considered assets:
Knowledge and experience in construction
Familiarity using power system software to perform calculations (e.g. ETAP).
Instrumentation and controls design experience
