Wood is recruiting for Controls Engineers to join our Systems Integration (SI) team within our Digital Consulting team, focusing on the electrical hardware design across automation projects throughout the UK. This is a hybrid role that can be based at any of the following UK offices: Aberdeen, Staines, Reading, Glasgow or Northampton with the expectation of travel as required.  
Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role
As a Controls Engineer they will be responsible for the initial design and selection of components through to supervising and supporting the actual build. You will join a small team who support exciting projects across high-profile clients within the Digital Consulting business. 
The Controls Engineer, you will have the expert knowledge to assist in the implementation of a variety of projects, specialising in the hardware design of the electrical controls. 
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Controls / Hardware engineer with a positive and proactive approach to ensuring continuous improvements, customer satisfaction and safety performance, who is looking for a role that provides technical challenges and variety.

Within SI, we are architecting our clients’ digital ecosystems to be inherently safe, cybersecure and operable. Within our teams we integrate client source systems across their IT, Operational Technology (OT) environments, securely pushing OT data into IT systems as a foundation for transformation.

Responsibilities

The key objectives for this role are:

Responsible for identifying / defining the Automation and Controls hardware requirements and solutions for the client
Implements the defined hardware Automation and Control solutions
Supports the Lead Engineer in accomplishing project objectives
Applies integration concepts to a wide variety of systems and across multiple vendor platforms
Engineers’ technical aspects of automation project design and / or implementation for assigned activities
Implements the hardware design activities for assigned activities
Prepares engineering studies, design drawings and material and equipment specifications
Resolves specialty related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes, and standards

Expected:

Prior experience and competency in Automation and Control Engineering
Experience in creating hardware documents / drawings, in design software eg Eplan, Autocad, Promis-e
Experienced in writing electrical controls hardware specification documents
Detailed experience with multiple system implementation project and / or control system platforms
Experience of the hardware specification and design of PLC systems and design of hardwired Safety Systems
Experience in creating hardware installation documents
Knowledge of modern automation and control applications, tools, methodologies, or equal training / experience
Good working knowledge of current industry specific technology / and safety requirements
Inquisitive, well organised and have a keen eye for detail

Desired:

Bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in an engineering discipline 
Brownfield upgrades / replacement automation and control projects experience
Prior on-site experience is advantageous
