Job Description
Wood is recruiting for an Automation Technician who will support the team in Equatorial Guinea on a 28 x 28 rotational basis.The incumbent will be responsible for control and shutdown systems on offshore facilities.
The Technician will provide direct supervision to the Process Control system support contractors as well as projects Contract personnel. In addition they work closely with Maintenance Personnel to manage all facility Control and shutdown protection activities. The incumbent will also provide technical direction to National Instrument Trainees and provides support and direction on the Process Control system.
Responsibilities
Daily maintenance of the Process Control systems including the stewardship of the operating systems and systems that connect to them, such as vender PLC/Control systemsResponsible for maintaining back up software for the running control systems including PLC’s.Coordinate the activities of any Process Control system support contractorsMaintain the PI database of the Wonderware data historianPerform all activities within his/her areas of responsibility according to laws, regulations, standards, specifications, and procedures. Special emphasis must be placed on health, safety and the environmentPromote team effort between Operations and engineering / projects groupsProvide input and review instrument specifications and work practicesResponsible and accountable for Instrument systems as defined in the Work Management ManualMaintain the quality and completion of scheduled workDevelop and maintain open communications on instrument issues (e.g. safe work practices, training, materials, etc.)Support work priority to maximize effectiveness and complement other work groups effortsWrite instrument related MOC’s (i.e. installation or project plans, etc.) and follow up with installation inspections consistent with Maintenance SystemsDevelop, monitor & inspect new controls applications for compliance to standards and recommends upgrades as necessaryAssist in the writing as needed and endorse in the absence of the IS/LT, all Higher Risk Instrument work permits as discussed in the Work Management ManualDevelop personal and team technical skills (for example, new regulations, equipment, methods, and others)Provide mentoring and hands-on support to instrument technicians for the maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems and utilization equipment (PCS systems, local control panels, CCR panel, and others)Good knowledge of applicable regulations pertaining to operations and to company Emergency Response, and capable of functioning in the emergency team positionAct as stand-in as required for Instrument Lead position as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications / Experience:A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent high school education enhanced by related technical school courses.Training in API RP 14CExperience in Instrumentation and/or Controls system maintenance in Processing Plant or Offshore Production Plant experienceSpecial courses required for the position, ref. company Competency Assessment and Training PlanUnderstanding of all the processes, and their interaction with control and shutdown systems associated with safe operation and maintenance of a running plantUnderstanding of all computer based control and shutdown systems to enable safe intervention when requiredSpecific Technical SkillsGood computer and IT skills with the ability to restore a fully functional system from component partsGood understanding of the numerous programming applications used to maintain the system and the effect of making changes on a running plantAbility to design and implement control and shutdown logic changes to Company standards using the MOC procedureAttitudes and Behavior:Safety orientated; able to intervene when requiredDemonstrates high level of initiative; able to assess a situation quickly, and develop response plans to mitigateGood interpersonal and communication skillsGood organizational and administrative skills; as well as competence in reporting and analyzing skillsAble to lead people, set a good example; training and mentoring skillsAttention to details and controlsProvide leadership role for installing and maintaining instrumentation and control equipment safely (that is, protect self and others from unexpected events and explosion) and cost effectively within the bounds of Company rules, instrument codes, industry practices, and regulationsProvide consistent, sound advice to the operations and instrument crafts and supervisors in the areas of Process Control System maintenance, installation, expansion, and for compliance with all applicable safety rules, Maintenance, specifications, codes, and good business practices
