YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The maritime world thrives on advanced electrical and automation solutions. At ABB Marine & Ports, you’ll work in an international environment where your expertise is vital to our clients. From oil tankers and passenger ships to icebreakers, as an Automation Engineer, you’ll encounter a wide range of vessel types. You’ll work on a variety of projects, ranging from small and fast-paced to large and complex. With your technical skills and passion for engineering, you’ll shape each project. Using ABB Automation Software and Hardware you will design innovative and reliable solutions for our customers. Your responsibilities: •Translation of the requirements and wishes of the customer into a solution and draft a functional and technical design. •System conversions- and system expansion engineering will be your main focus, you will collaborate from design to the delivery on site. •Create and maintain code and applications for the Process Control Systems, IT subsystems and hardware platform. •Offer technical support for ABB Automation systems, including ABB Controllers, ABB PLCs, code inquiries from colleagues in the field, and customer questions about their DCS or ESD system •Preparation of engineering documentation like functional descriptions, user manuals, drawings and (test) procedures. •Willingness to perform (remote) support outside of normal working hours in case of emergencies, as maritime operations are continuous. As an Automation Engineer, you’ll work alongside a team of driven colleagues. On larger projects, you’ll collaborate closely, while smaller projects often require you to work independently. Project durations vary from a few weeks to several months. You’ll regularly report your progress and findings to the project manager and lead engineer, ensuring alignment and successful outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
• You’re a true problem solver with a passion for complex technical challenges. You’re a strong communicator, customer-focused, and take responsibility for the projects you’re involved in. Additionally, you bring:
• A Bachelor degree in industrial automation or electrical engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in process automation.
• You have a high sense of responsibility, a hands-on attitude and are service- and customer-oriented.
• Autodidact personality, eager to gets his knowledge up to speed in order to meet up or outrun expectations.
• You are a good communicator and a true team player but feels comfortable working independently when needed.
• Availability to travel for survey’s, customer meetings and on-site commissioning.
• Good mastery of the English languages, oral and written. Good knowledge of Dutch language is an advantage.
• A valid driver’s license (B).
• Experience with the ABB 800xA systems and/or the maritime sector is a plus.
