THIS POSITION REPORTS TO
Engineering Manager
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Is Functional Safety (FS) your expertise, and would you like to apply your skills in a company where FS is a core focus with a FS setup at a very high level? Now is your chance. As part of ABB’s pharma organization, you will work alongside highly competent project managers and Engineers who, like you, aim to create top-quality solutions – and the client desires the same. You will be the technical lead for an international project team of 2-4 application/project engineers. Together, you deliver FS solutions as part of ABB’s many parallel automation deliveries for the client at their sites in Bagsværd and Kalundborg. The solutions are based on ABB’s FS Management system, which is built on IEC-61508/61511 standards. As a Lead Engineer, you are technically responsible and also accountable for quality assurance with accompanying documentation in accordance with ABB’s FS Management process. It is your role to translate the client’s requirements into specific safety requirement specifications covering both detailed hardware and software design. As a Lead, you primarily work from a helicopter perspective, delegating, coordinating, and ensuring quality. However, you also have the opportunity to work hands-on. Pharma is your primary focus area, but it is only a small part of ABB’s overall FS focus. Besides our classic projects in industry and utilities, we are at the forefront of the green transition with promising projects in areas like renewable energy, carbon capture, and Power-To-X. Your responsibilities: • Be technically responsible for all phases of complex pharma FS projects from design to final delivery • Ensure technical clarification of safety requirements and design in close dialogue with the client • Quality assure project deliveries – design and solutions and in accordance with IEC-61508/61511 • Develop safety PLC applications – mainly quality assuring but possibly also hands-on • Plan and participate in test activities (FAT/SAT) • Coordinate and delegate tasks as well as provide technical support to colleagues in the team • Continuously report on status to the technical project manager
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
• A higher technical education such as engineer or marine engineer
• Experience from a similar role where you have had technical and informal leadership responsibilities
• Solid experience in process-related Functional Safety including an FS Engineer certification
• Experience with PLC programming – we will teach you ABB’s 800xA if you are not familiar with it
• Motivation to support and guide less experienced colleagues with different backgrounds
• Motivation and ability to work systematically with safety documentation and processes
• Good English skills – the team is international and the everyday language is English
