Overview
The Senior Development Engineer will be responsible for supporting technical efforts for the INTO Engineering Sciences team. They will support technical aspects of the solution strategy for projects within one or more programs, each of which will focus on medical device technology but could also include a molecular entity, a drug/device combination, digital and electromechanical solutions, or other combinations of products necessary to deliver against the agreed-upon Target Product Profile (TPP) for cancer treatment. They will work with multi-functional teams to develop solutions in a timely and efficient manner. They will provide technical feedback, ensuring delivery of new products by serving as a technical enabler for cross-sector initiatives.
The Senior Development Engineer will collaborate with internal business partners to help shape, develop, and execute projects (including development of TPP) as well as leverage external partnerships to drive growth of the business.
• Collaborate with the INTO engineering sciences preclinical lead as well as the broader cross functional team to identify key scientific questions to be answered for critical projects.
• Lead the approach that will be used to answer key questions with benchtop and preclinical models.
• Employ strict scientific rigor to develop new test methods, draft protocols, execute ex vivo tissue testing, analyze results with statistical methods, and draw conclusions that will drive the overall program development.
• Aid in the validation of current preclinical models and the development of new preclinical models.
• Develop preclinical test protocols (ex vivo and in vivo) and provide oversight to testing facilities on execution of the studies and analyses of the results.
• Work with external partners (academic centers, contract research facilities, key opinion leaders, engineering consulting firms) to ensure experiments conducted for the project are completed on time and with sufficient detail to draw meaningful conclusions from the studies.
Responsibilities
• Attend team meetings for relevant programs.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with internal & external preclinical and R&D partners to access relevant equipment, tissue, and facilities for testing.
• Propose, review, and refine experimental protocols.
• Conduct hands-on lab-based experiments (including ex vivo tissue and in vivo testing as necessary) to address key scientific questions for multiple programs.
• Collaborate with external partners to develop contracts, protocols & conduct experiments (20-25% travel may be required)
• Document study protocols, data, and reports
• Draw conclusions from test data and provide recommended next steps to cross-functional teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Required Skills/Experiences:
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or a scientific related field with 3+ years of hands-on tissue testing lab experience is required
• Demonstrated understanding of biology and/or oncology
• Experience with operating mechanical test equipment & designing test fixtures
• Experience developing & validating complex test methods
• Experience using statistical methods to analyze complex data sets
Preferred Skills & Experiences:
• Experience with large animal models and murine tumor models
• advanced engineering/scientific degree (MS, PhD)
• Experience partnering with external contract research organizations (CRO) or other in vivo and ex vivo testing partners
• Experience with pharmaceutical development (including experimentation in preclinical models)
• Experience conducting ablations in tissue models
Other:
• This position can be based in Cincinnati, OH, Raynham, Cambridge, or Boston, Massachusetts; Raritan, NJ; Cincinnati, Ohio; Spring House, PA.
• Requires up to 20-25 % (Domestic/International) travel
The anticipated base pay range for this position is [$106,500] to [$143,000]
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
