PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
JOB SUMMARY:
As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary engineering team to deliver medium to large EPC and EPCM projects.
You will lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical systems, components and processes.
Your recommendations will resolve technical issues, support project stakeholders and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project’s electrical engineering aspects are met.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications
• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
• Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
• Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors, construction and other functional groups
• When delegated, provides guidance to other electrical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects
• Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues
• Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
• Mentors and assists more junior electrical team members
• Completes electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
• Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
• Provides technical inputs and evaluations in support of the procurement of electrical components, including pre-award activities and post-award support of equipment suppliers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Relevant work experience in FEED, proposal & detailed engineering preferably in an EPC industry for large industrial plants, power projects, utilities, oil and gas plants.
• Have demonstrated experience in the Australian Mining and Metals industry.
• Knowledge of electrical system studies using ETAP/DIgSilent Power factory software to produce short circuit, load flow, motor starting & voltage drop, relay setting & protection coordination, arc flash and earthing studies.
• Previous experience in preparation of single line diagrams, schematics, load lists, MV and LV cable calculations, cable schedules, equipment lists, and material take offs.
• Should have worked on equipment sizing, specifications, Material Requisition preparation, technical bid evaluation and vendor print reviews of various electrical equipment like MV & LV switchgear, MCCs, power & distribution transformers, DC systems / UPS, Cables, generator circuit breaker, bus duct, lighting fixtures.
• Review of 3D Models and be a stakeholder in 30%, 60% and 90% Model Reviews with Client, Vendor and Sub Contractors.
• Ability to participate and contribute to project risk assessments and hazard studies including HSECiD, HSECiC, HAZiD and HAZOP’s.
• Should be conversant with electrical layouts such as routing, equipment, lighting, grounding & lightning protection, substation layouts etc.
