Summary of the role
The open position is for an Electrical Engineer within the hydro generator engineering group. The team is located at the Andritz Hydro Peterborough Generator Center, which includes a modern coil and bar manufacturing facility. The unique requirements of each hydro project make this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a candidate with related skills and experience.
The Electrical Engineer is expected to work closely with the local engineering and drafting teams, as well as externally located engineering specialists, project management, manufacturing and installation teams.
Occasional travel to customer locations, project sites or other Andritz offices is required.
Individual duties will vary based on project requirements, but generally include the following:
• Optimization of hydro generator electromagnetic design, for proposals, contracts and studies;
• Analysis of electrical components, using in-house tools or developing calculations as necessary;
• Documentation for proposals, technical reports and customer O&M manuals;
• Review and approval of electrical drawings to ensure contractual and internal requirements are met;
• Creation of engineering instructions that define technical requirements for manufacturing , installation and testing;
• Disposition of non-conformances during manufacturing and installation;
• Review and analysis of site data and testing;
• Creation and calibration of design tools;
• Work on R&D projects for development of new generator technologies.
Education and experience
The ideal candidate is an individual that understands the generator product and has the following skills:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering;
• Existing or potential for Professional Engineer registration;
• Ideally 3 to 5 years of design experience with hydro generators or other rotating machinery;
• Computer skills in common PC applications – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel et PowerPoint);
• Electromagnetic finite element skills – desired;
• Excellent problem solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity;
• Ability to work with people in a team environment;
• Effective oral and written communication skills;
• Fluency in English required;
• Ability to travel & work with various cultures.
