JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Performs a wide variety of complex HVAC maintenance work, involving installation, alteration, repair or rearrangement of machines, facilities, or equipment. Must have and maintain UNIVERSAL Refrigeration License. Will be required to perform mechanical, electrical and controls related work as necessary to support business needs. Directs lower graded personnel and works under the direction of supervision or higher rated personnel.
This position is for 1st shift. Typical working hours are 7AM – 3PM and Monday-Friday. Overtime may be necessary at times to support business need.
The starting pay for this position will be $40.35/hour progressing to $40.98/hour after 6 months of satisfactory performance. In addition, this position qualifies for a $2/hour premium for working in the airborne controlled area.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Essential Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for maintaining, altering, installing, repairing, or rearranging complex equipment or machines. Will diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform corrections based on complexity with no or minimal supervision.
• Required to use, maintain, modify and repair, computerized HVAC control systems and their related inputs. Additionally, troubleshooting and writing new code for HVAC control system is required.
• Required to perform work assignments in the Controlled Access Area of WFSC/FMO and with equipment that is contaminated with Uranium or other radioactive nuclides.
• Must understand and troubleshoot and repair the application of hoods, filters, and air balance principles to control radioactive contamination.
• Will be required to interpret and follow complicated drawings to make accurate alignment, fits or installations of parts and equipment such as piping, couplings, wiring, relays etc.
• Required to tear down, overhaul, and reassemble intricate mechanisms, machine apparatus, etc. involving complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, controls and lubricating systems.
• Required to provide service and repair to various systems and components for chemical or caustic equipment such as tanks, piping, valves, sumps, pump drains, etc.
• Responsible for computerized tracking and logging use of freon.
• Installs, repairs or services facility or production utility systems such as chillers, chilled water distribution, dx refrigeration equipment, air compressors and associated systems, cooling towers, boilers, instrument air, steam etc.
• Chiller maintenance, including equipment tear down and rebuild.
• Responsible for repairing, installing, or adjusting of the machines and equipment, and performing other trade work under the direction of supervision, higher or equally rated personnel in skills other than own trade/skill.
• Required to follow Operating Procedures and other written safety requirements to perform maintenance tasks and operate machines and equipment to check work performed and demonstrate satisfactory operating condition.
• Responsible for operating various types of moving equipment used in installation and repair work, such as forklift trucks, platform lift trucks, mobile crane, hoists, etc.
• Responsible to assist Engineering Resources in the troubleshooting and assessment of equipment and machines.
• Responsible for interfacing with computerized Maintenance Management System to perform and record tasks as well as inventory withdrawal and returns.
• Must be able to perform other maintenance services besides own specialty.
• May be required to work in controlled manufacturing area, observing strict criticality and radiation protection regulations.
• Performs duties and tasks conforming to all safety regulations and procedures. Keep facilities, materials, and work areas clean and orderly, exercising good housekeeping practices.
• Must be able to read and understand complex equipment technical manuals.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High School/GED or graduate of 2-year trade school program with minimum (5) years of equivalent education and experience.
• Must have and maintain the following certifications (or equivalent/more advanced licenses): (1) Universal Refrigeration License.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience reading and interpreting complex mechanical and electrical drawings, sketches, and schematics.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience determining dimensions, mechanical fit up, roundness etc. using equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, meggers, volt, and amperage meters etc.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in HVAC and chiller maintenance. This includes maintenance of complex industrial chillers as follows: troubleshooting, teardown and rebuild of chillers, and the ability to program and troubleshooting HVAC control systems.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in operating various types of machine equipment such as saws, shears, drill press, punch press, etc.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in logical troubleshooting.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience with voltage levels up to 480v.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience with each of the following: (a) troubleshooting mechanical and/or hydraulic systems; (b) troubleshooting and servicing control circuits; (c) industrial wiring; (d) 3-phase systems.
Eligibility Requirement
• Must be proficient with basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and Shop Math, including decimals and fractions.
• Able to complete and pass a written assessment of knowledge provided by Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.
• Must have in-depth knowledge of thermodynamic cycles and be able to apply them to troubleshooting and repair situations.
• Must be able to use computerized Maintenance Management system to receive and complete necessary documentation of maintenance work orders as well as inventory withdrawal. Must have basic computer skills and be able to communicate via email, access and retrieve information from the Internet, etc.
• Work assignments will include work in the Controlled Access Area. Must be able to pass the Nuclear Safety Training Test and be able to pass pulmonary function test and wear respirators and SCBA/forced breathing air.
• Required to work shift work in accordance with business needs. Will be expected to respond to scheduled overtime, hold over, or emergency call-in as required. May require employee wear a pager or cell phone.
• Able to handle heavy materials with fork trucks, cranes, rigging, and manually as required. A formal certification is preferred.
• Considerable physical effort will be applied in machine and equipment repair. Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. and manipulate bulky, heavy machinery and parts. (Lifting > 50 shall normally be performed be two personnel).
• Must be able to climb and work at elevated levels and in confined spaces.
Desired Characteristics
• Associate’s degree in a maintenance specialty or trade school desired.
