The Chemical Development Pilot Plants at the Geel and Beerse sites; and our Commercial API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Plants at the Geel site are essential in driving forward the launch and grow of new medicines. In addition to scaling up Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients from lab scale to commercial production, the pilot plants and commercial plants also play a significant role in supplying innovative medicines necessary for vital clinical studies before a product launch. Key Responsibilities
In this senior position, you will serve as the Domain Expert for key and emerging technologies in chemical manufacturing. Your expertise will guide the introduction of new technology platforms, ensuring successful scale-up from lab to commercial production. You will lead critical project initiatives that directly impact New Product Introductions (NPIs) and collaborate with various departments including Operations, Quality, and Clinical Development.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Serve as a subject matter expert in both established and emerging technologies for chemical development and API commercial production
• Lead the introduction, evaluation and implementation of innovative technology platforms across development and production processes
• Oversee project intakes, including scoping, business case analysis, and assessment of alternatives to drive project approvals.
• Design and select engineering solutions for complex production and processing equipment, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
• Manage the execution and completion of all project-related activities, including leading internal project teams and third-party contractors.
• Represent the engineering department in cross-functional New Product Introduction teams, facilitating smooth integration of new technologies
• Mentor and guide junior engineers providing expertise on both project delivery and technology application.
• Keep pace with advancements in chemical process technologies and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, supply chain, and capital project execution within the pharmaceutical or regulated chemical processing industries.
• Proven ability to balance multiple priorities, uphold confidentiality, and navigate high-profile, complex environments with integrity.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem solving skills, with a proven track record of translating business needs into effective engineering solutions.
• Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across departments.
• Fluent in English, with proficiency in Dutch (or willingness to learn).
• Deep understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to the pharmaceutical and fine chemical sectors.
