JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
In this role, you will perform a wide variety of complex maintenance work to support the GEH Facilities Team. As a Site Maintenance Instrumentation/Microelectronics Technician, your primary responsibility will be troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the Site Fire Detection System. Other duties will include Preventative Maintenance and Testing of the system and all components, such as back-up battery and UPS, horn/strobe, pull stations, duct smoke detectors, and functionality testing. Maintenance of the site S2 Badging system and meter calibrations will also be required.

This is a 1st shift position. The typical working hours are 7AM-3PM. The starting pay for this position is $40.35/hour. After 6 months of satisfactory performance, the pay will increase to $40.98/hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Functions

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

• Embrace GEH’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, and quality.
• Responsible for maintenance, repair, and calibration of various electronic systems, included, but not limited to, fire detection system and hardware, monitoring probes, calibration procedures, with an understanding and ability to navigate PLC, and relay-based control systems.

• Must be able to maintain, repair and modify complicated equipment and systems with minimal direction. Must be able to troubleshoot logically on-line systems to eliminate malfunctions, minimize discrepant product and prevent system downtime.
• Must be able to read and interpret complicated mechanical, P&ID, electrical power, ladder logic, and instrument loop drawings. Must be able to read and understand vendor maintenance manuals for proper calibration and maintenance methods. Will be expected to suggest methods of calibration and preventive maintenance where vendor or established methods are inadequate.
• Responsible for removing, replacing, and/or repairing electronic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical apparatus used to control a wide variety of process parameters.
• Responsible for monitoring all instruments, controls, and test equipment. Recognizing malfunctions and makes necessary corrections or assist in making corrections.
• Through self-study, on-the-job training, and in-plant and vendor training courses, attain a thorough knowledge of Site Maintenance related equipment and processes.

• Must possess mechanical and electrical skills necessary to install new or relocate old systems as needed to satisfy process needs. May be required on occasion to fabricate functional parts, mark up existing drawings “as-build” or generate comprehensive sketches suitable for submittal to Design Services.
• Will assist with inventory, storage of material, rearrangement of storage facility, and recommend stock levels and changes in stocking facility. Will assist in compiling data and preparation of preferred vendor listings.
• Must comply with provisions set forth in the plant safety manual and use good judgment in performing all work tasks safely. Must assume a leading role in counseling trainee personnel in proper safety methods.
• Must keep facilities, materials, and work area clean and orderly using good housekeeping practices & using good judgment in performing all work safely.
• Must be able to use a variety of test equipment such as, amp probe, precision pressure gages, regulators, pyrometers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, programmable power supplies and various process signal calibrators and simulators.
• Must recognize areas of instrumentation and control inadequacy and make recommendations for upgrade or applications.
• Must be sufficiently proficient in troubleshooting ability to make a major contribution to the debugging of new or modified process control systems, assuming a leading role in determining methods and sequences followed and providing or suggesting solutions to problems as appropriate.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

• Technical school associate degree in instrumentation, mechatronics, electronics; or 3 years experience equivalent training and experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in industrial process controls, with emphasis on maintenance and calibration of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and electronic equipment.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience with basic hand tools, soldering equipment, electrical and electronics test equipment.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience reading and interpreting drawings, instrument loop sheets, schematics, ladder logic, instruction manuals and logic symbol schematics.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in reading and understanding written documents and procedures such as SARs, P&Ps and PRODs.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience preparing written documentation of procedures such as SARs, special calibration procedures, etc.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience making corrections to drawings and loop sheets as required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing industrial, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical process control equipment.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience and working knowledge of state-of-the-art test equipment, such as multimeters, digital oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, calibrators, optical pyrometers, etc.

Eligibility Requirements

• Work requires intense mental concentration to safely perform machine and equipment repair.
• Ability to complete necessary documentation work effort such as repair order forms, inventory withdrawal slips, calibration record cards, etc.
• Must be able to pass Nuclear Safety requirements for working in the controlled area and be able to wear all radiation safety equipment.
• Must be familiar with and able to work to the National Electrical Code.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, read complex technical manuals.
• Ability to work in cold/heat.
• Ability to move around equipment, climb and work at elevated levels and in confined spaces. Ability to use ladders, go into pits and climb scaffolds. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and work in awkward positions while performing maintenance tasks.
• Ability and willingness to work in Radiological Controlled Access Areas, pass pulmonary function test and wear proper radiological personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators and breathing air supplied hoods.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime without previous notice as necessary to meet business maintenance requirements.
• Valid Driver’s License. Must obtain fork truck/aerial lift certification.
• Ability and willingness to pass background check and site security requirements to access and perform work in the Controlled Access Area.
• Ability to operate a computer. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft suite, access and retrieval of information from the Internet, and experience updating maintenance and shop systems.
