We are seeking a skilled Instrument Technician for a major control system integrator covering the Midwest USA region.
This role is 100% field-based, offering an exciting opportunity to work with a leading system integrator and excellent benefits, including a signing bonus up to $4000.
Your Skills
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot live PLC and/or DCS application logic with a basic understanding of IEC61131 languages.
- Experience in commissioning and troubleshooting 4-20mA loops.
- Proficiency in using multimeters, Drucks, Fluke, Meggers, and other common testing and diagnostic tools within the I&E/I&C domain.
- Experience with power management systems (PMS), including configuring and commissioning interfaces between PMS, MCC, and plant control systems (SCADA, DCS/PLC).
- Familiarity with and troubleshooting experience of Fieldbus networks such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, HART, and Foundation Fieldbus.
- Experience with control system panel wiring, including the ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, perform terminations, and ensure compliance with electrical codes.
- Ability to calibrate process instruments commonly found in food and beverage and manufacturing industries, following standard industry methods and project standards.
- Ability to service, commission, and troubleshoot process control valves, identify failure modes, and specify materials for repair.
- Ability to read and interpret instrument datasheets, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, single-line diagrams, and schematics.
- Ability to interpret I&C engineering documents, schematics and drawings such as;
- Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
- Utility Flow Diagram (UFD)
- Process Datasheet (PDS)
- Alarm and Trip Schedule
- Schedule Single Line Diagram (SLD)
- Cause and Effects (C&E)
- Control Narrative Logic Diagrams (ISA 5.2)
- Interface Signals List (e.g. Modbus Maps)
- Instrument Index and I/O List
- Instrument Loop Diagram
- Instrument Datasheets
- Instrument Legend Sheets
- Instrument Layout Plans
- Instrument Cable List & Cable Routing

Your Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing or industrial environments in capacity of I&E commissioning and/or O&M.
- At least 3 years experience with PMS, DCS, PLC, or SCADA control systems, either hands-on or in a commissioning support role.
- Experience working in a live plant environment and coordinating and scheduling activities that impact production with the plant operations team. Managing risk to end-users and being mindful of the impact on process and plant safety.
- Knowledge of water treatment systems and equipment is a plus.
Educational Requirements
- Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related field preferred.
- A vocational or Technical School diploma in Instrumentation Technology is preferred.
Certification and Training
One or more certifications in the following is preferred but not mandatory;
- NICET Level I-IV in Instrumentation and Controls
- ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
- NCCER Instrumentation Technician Certification
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT)
- National Electrical Code (NEC) Certification
- NICET Level I-IV Certification in Electrical Systems
- IEEE Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP)
- NECA Certification for low voltage electrical systems and installations
- Certified Electrical Inspector (CEI) by an accredited training body
- NFPA 70E Arc Flash Hazards Certification
Additional Requirements

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and ability to collaborate within a team.
- Willingness to travel within the USA Midwest region, up to 75-100% of the time.
- Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, working on ladders and stairs, and flexibility for overtime and on-call duties.
- A valid Driver’s License is required.
