INSTRUMENT SUPERVISOR

Reports To:

Maintenance Superintendent

Background:

The Instrument Supervisor will exhibit exemplary safety and supervisory leadership in all matters pertaining to instrumentation maintenance works on or pertinent to vessel. They are responsible for ensuring his subordinates are competent to carry out their allotted tasks.

They will liaise effectively with other key management personnel.

Typical Responsibilities & Standards

Maintain And Adjust The Condition Of Instrument Assets.
1. Comply with relevant authorisation procedures, safe working practices and specific instructions.
2. Complete maintenance in an agreed timescale, using safe and appropriate methods and agreed procedures.
3. Resources are planned for and used cost effectively.
4. Operating requirements are obtained and are available for reference.
5. Adjusted assets comply with specified operating requirements with minimum disruption and with the specified methods, tools and materials.
6. Monitor and record the achievement of requirements accurately.

Monitor And Assess The Performance And Condition Of Instrument Assets
1. Information is obtained from reliable sources using specified methods. (Inspection, documentary information, instrument readings.)
2. Use monitoring equipment or procedures correctly to assess the condition of instrument assets
3. Conduct monitoring in line with specified timescales and schedules.
4. Record and communicate monitored outcomes accurately and in timely fashion.
5. Comparisons of current performance are made against previous assessments and action taken where differences must be addressed.

Diagnose Faults In Instrument Assets
1. Respond promptly to problems in line with approved procedures.
2. Select appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures and apply them methodically.
3. Clarify the nature of problems with instrument assets.
4. Determine the cause and extent of problems in the performance and condition of instrument systems or assets.
5. Use the results of inspections to determine the appropriate actions to take.
6. Record an accurate and full description in the appropriate document history

Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures
1. Sample and check that controlled process discharges from area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits
2. Identify and halt unplanned discharges where possible, and reported immediately according to policy, procedure and regulation.
3. Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure
4. Resources such as PPE materials tools and spares are not wasted or used inefficiently

Manage and Supervise Effectively
1. Establish effective relationships with colleagues and subcontractors.
2. Establish scope of work clearly (briefings, toolbox talks, presentations.)
3. Plan and control use of resources effectively. (Personnel, time, materials, transport, IT).
4. Use of communication skills shows leadership (oral, teambuilding, recording, noting, handover, analysing.
5. Objective and consistent in assessment and appraisal of subordinates and subcontractors.
6. Makes recommendations and improvements in working practices for greater safety, efficiency and profitability.

Emergency Response
1. Carry out Emergency Response role
2. Demonstrate competence during Emergency Response Drills and training exercises,

1. Maintain And Adjust The Condition Of Instrument Assets

7. Provide any additional duties as required by the OIM/Unit Spt. and /or HOD to maintain safe and efficient running of the Unit.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

·Proven experience and/or qualified to HNC/HND in instrumentation or recognised equivalent.

·5 yrs experience desired with offshore experience preferred.

·Supervisory experience of Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessment.

·Experience and knowledge of hydrocarbon processing systems and utilities.

·Experience in Safety and Environmental Management Systems.

·Comp ex E’X’ Course preferred.

·Medically fit to offshore International standards such as ENG1 or equivalent.

Capable of motivating teams. Flexible in applying different approaches to work demands.
3. Technical: High standard of analytical, diagnostic, technical and professional knowledge, on pneumatic, electropneumatic, electro-hydraulic, and hydraulic control system Instrumentation.
4. IT: Use standard Management System ‘Office’ package electronic mail system and diagnostic
software and equipment as required.
