Project Overview:

Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup for the Mammoth South, Central I and Central II project for a 376MW DC each (Total of 1.1GW DC) solar plant in Pulaski County, Indiana.

Job Summary:

The Survey Field Engineer (SFE) is responsible for providing survey and machine control support to the Project Field Engineer (PFE), Superintendents, craft, and others, as assigned. The SFE reports directly to PFE for daily scheduled work priorities, coordination between other disciplines and assigned specific tasks. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:

• Promote safe work behaviors and practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) policies.
• Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities, Industry Best Practices
• Provide construction survey support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision
• Coordinate with superintendents and field engineers for interface coordination of construction work activities and plans.
• Establish and/or verify and maintain the project’s survey control network
• Setup and calibrate machine control for on-site construction equipment
• Troubleshoot machine control when issues arise
• Oversee/perform weekly drone mapping flights
• Stakeout locations for cable trenching
• Collect as-builts on electrical underground
• Perform quality checks/pile as-builts as needed
• Work closely with automation team to provide support as needed
• Completion of quality documentation in automation tool through construction and system turnover.
• Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
• Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and wide latitude for judgement.
• Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Networks and connects with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Engineering/Technical degree and 6 years experience in surveying, involving a mix of field and office duties with modern instruments, software, and technology; with at least 5 years supervisorial experience or 12 years’ experience (in lieu of a degree), with at least 5 years supervisorial experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Incident safety program.
• Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education
• Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to surveying field & office activities
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means, and methods.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to UAV/Drone flight and data management operations
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.
• Good to excellent communications skills regarding construction sequencing and quality inspections
• Intermediate level use of Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Excellent problem-solving ability
• General awareness of environmental laws
• Experience with GIS software

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with UAV/Drones
• Licensed FAA Part-107 UAV/Drone Pilot
