Job Description

Wood is seeking Lead Subject Matter Expert for our Fabrication shops across the Americas. Based out of or Houston, TX office, the Fabrication SME Lead will play a critical role in optimizing our fabrication capabilities across multiple sites across North and South America. This position requires expertise in fabrication processes and continuous improvement methodologies, including quality assurance and benchmarking. The ideal candidate will facilitate internal growth, ensure efficient operations, and promote collaboration among our fabrication shops to maximize resource utilization and profitability.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:Fabrication Capabilities Management:Develop and maintain a comprehensive Fabrication Capabilities Matrix to assess and communicate the strengths and limitations of each fabrication shop.Ensure that each shop has a clear understanding of their approved product lists and quality assurance capabilities.Quality Assurance & Compliance:Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASME, etc.).Serve as the ‘gatekeeper’ for approving aspirational growth and service capabilities across fabrication shops. This includes evaluating processes related to permits, qualifications, certifications, and equipment purchases to ensure alignment with the company’s risk profile.Benchmarking & Performance Targets:Establish performance benchmarks for each fabrication shop, setting clear targets for efficiency, output, and quality.Monitor shop performance through monthly reviews and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.Strategic Growth Facilitation:Collaborate with Project and Consulting teams to internalize fabrication needs currently outsourced to third-party suppliers.Advocate for the internal capabilities of the fabrication shops to support corporate growth and utilization.Investment & Asset Management:Conduct high-level capital investment modeling to determine where to invest for growth, maintain stability, or consider divestment.Assess and recommend investments in fabrication technology and automation, focusing on safety and efficiency improvements.Maintain an accurate inventory of fabrication assets and oversee their management and annual checks.Coaching & Competence Development:Assess the competencies of fabrication supervisors and teams, identifying skills gaps and training needs.Promote apprenticeships and partnerships with technical colleges to build a skilled workforce for the future.Collaborative Leadership:Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing among the fabrication shops to enhance overall capabilities and efficiency.Share best practices across fabrication shops and help manage workloads across offices to optimize resource allocation.Logistical Optimization:Analyze and improve logistical processes related to fabrication to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.Support commercial bids by providing insights into the most suitable fabrication location based on capabilities and costs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:Experience: 10 – 15 years of experience in fabrication operations or manufacturing management, with a strong background in continuous improvement methodologies.Technical Skills:Strong understanding of fabrication processes, equipment, and quality standards.Proficiency in continuous improvement methodologies.Experience in managing cross-functional teams and projects.Soft Skills:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma) are a plus.
