JOB TITLE: TRAINEE MARINE CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR

24 months fixed term contract – Ghana

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be assigned to a Supervisor mentor responsible for aligning tasks with established traineeship programmed.
• Under strict supervision
• Receive foundational training on key aspects of control room operations, safety protocols, and equipment handling.
• Undergo classroom and workplace training with emphasis on basic pump operations, cargo monitoring, and safety precautions.
• Be assigned progressively, more responsibilities per planned programme such as hands-on operation of cargo discharge, storage, and monitoring systems.
• Practice calculation of cargo quantities, data logging, and running of pumps, with a focus on developing operational decision-making skills.
• Assist with Controlling, Monitoring, reception, storage and discharge of crude oil cargo and slops, under close monitoring to comply with the working and reporting procedures and relevant standards set.
• Be present always to observe as Supervisor assures the Cargo Quality in minimizing the quantity of free water present in the cargo.
• Observe the process of reflecting cargo quantities for Offtake operation and preparation for subsequent discharge plan for the Offtake.
• Assists with calculating cargo quantities with Surveyor and Custom Officer
• Observe and if requested assist, with the preparation of Midnight reports in relation to cargo quantities on board.
• Observe and if required assist with the routine running the pumps for the various operations on the facility (Offtake, Transfer, COW, Stripping, FLC & etc.).
• Assists with conducting the venting of the cargo tanks as per the approved procedure.
• Liaise with Supervisor on monitoring all traffic flows to mitigate the risks of collision.
• Assists with performing routine and emergency ballasting/de-ballasting.
• Observe, learn to apply and if required assists with the process of preparing the Permit/TRA for continuous and incoming job scopes (Performing Authority & Isolating Authority).
• Contribute to the delivery of Health Safety Environment (HSE), plans and improvement objectives.
• Be aware of the physical condition of plants and equipment to ensure technical integrity is maintained; raise issues and concerns identified.
• Maintain sustainable communication with Supervisors and other work groups.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSAND SKILLS:

• Deck OOW Unlimited STCW III/1 Certificate of Competence
• STWC Certifications: Basic STWC mandatory training certifications (e.g Firefighting, Survival at Sea, Personal Safety, Basic/Advance Tanker, Radar / ARPA)
• Medical Certification: A current offshore medical certificate or seafarer medical certificate.
• Communication Proficiency: Ability to operate communication equipment with GMDSS training or certification in GMDSS.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with managers and other departments.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Years of sea experience as a deck officer on Tanker, bulk carriers, container ships, or with prior work on offshore vessels (FPSO, VLCC, or other Tanker vessels) or in comparable marine environments are given preference.
• Experience in cargo handling operations is an added advantage.
• A fundamental understanding of cargo and marine operations
