Wood is currently seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to expand our team within the Oil & Gas Canada business in Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB.  The successful candidate will be engaged in projects across several areas including oil and gas (upstream, midstream, downstream), energy transition and petrochemical industries.
We are seeking experienced engineers with the drive and commitment to make a genuine difference to our performance across the full life cycle of projects, including study phase, DBM, FEED and Detailed Design. Please note this role will work our standard office hybrid work schedule. 

Responsibilities

Strong understanding of fire protection codes and standards such as NFPA, APIs etc.
Perform fire and hazard assessments of facilities.
Develop fire protection philosophies and safety in design criteria.
Firewater design- fire water demand, FW network including FW pumps and storage tanks.
Fundamental understanding of special fire protection systems- deluge/water spray, foam, clean agents etc.
Develop fire and safety equipment layout.
Develop SOW/TOR for various safety studies e.g facility siting. PHAs, consequence modeling etc.
Provide input to fire and gas detection layouts.
Provide input to hazardous area classification.
Provide input to layout and facility siting.
Provide input to fireproofing.
Participate in model reviews. Provide guidance on human factors and egress.
Conduct PHA sessions (HAZID, What-IF, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL).
Manage the closure of risk actions/recommendations generated from PHA.
Perform consequence analysis and dispersion modelling.
Collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
Coordination and Interface with Clients.
Complete conceptual studies through to detail engineering stages.

Qualifications

Currently registered or eligible for registration with APEGA.
Have a minimum of 10 years’ engineering experience with the majority spent working in refining, petrochemicals or oil & gas industries.
Strong written and oral communication (English) skills.
General understanding of process engineering fundamentals.
Must be able to prioritize workload while multi-tasking, meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.
Must be able to coordinate with team members in other multiple projects across the different time zone locations.
Firewater design experience is an asset.
Consequence analysis, dispersion modelling and facility siting experience is preferred.
Experience with area classifications is preferred.
HAZOP, HAZID and SIL rating studies experience is preferred.
Hands on experience with PHAST or similar software is preferred.
Experience in reviewing engineering packages for the full life cycle of the projects is preferred.
