Position Summary:
This internship opportunity initially involves supporting the integration of large, custom robotic welding systems including mechanical and electrical assembly and will support the development of new industrial robotics technologies. This position will interpret complex and ill-defined requirements and develop them into elegant and creative software solutions. This position will work effectively with and challenge other experienced developers at all stages of the software development life-cycle including requirements analysis, high-level design, low-level algorithms, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work “hands-on” with industrial robotic welding systems (ABB, Fanuc)
• Work at all level of the software engineering process (analysis, architecture & design, development, documentation, integration, test, etc.)
• Write high quality code (well designed, readable, testable, efficient, etc.) in a test-driven development environment
• Proactively gather requirements directly from users & sales people
• Form strategies to solve complex, ill-defined problems
• Write high quality code (well designed, readable, testable, efficient, etc.)
• Document and maintain various codebases
• Keeps job knowledge current through continual studying of latest development methodologies and technologies
• Communicate effectively in a small team of software engineering professionals
• Maintain excellent personal organization to enable effective multi-tasking, strong attention to detail, and simultaneous management of projects at different development stages
• Ability to work independently
• Create software tools to automate processes and metrics

Technical Skills Required:

• Currently pursuing minimum of BS in computer science, computer/electrical/mechanical engineering or other related fields
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic software development fundamentals (object oriented design, etc.)
• Desire to work with industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc), automation equipment, vision systems, etc.
• Desire to work with Robot Operating System (ROS) and adjacent open-source libraries
• Desire to work with nVidia CUDA desirable
• The innate desire to derive satisfaction from a job well done and to seek out challenging (and rewarding) tasks
• Real-Time Systems
• Microsoft Embedded OS
• Programming experience (.NET)
• Object-oriented principles
• Source code control (SVN)

The intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There is extensive use of a computer, and at times work can be sedentary.
• Work environment: Normal office environment and work on the manufacturing floor. While performing the duties of the position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
