Job Description

The Project Engineer defines global environmental program requirements, establishes company policies, and objectives and executes strategy to meet environmental regulatory requirements, standards, and certifications.

The Project Engineer is responsible for developing and communicating knowledge on environmental product standards, certifications, and regulations required for management of substances of concern in products, energy efficiency of products, and end-of-life responsibilities.

This role is also responsible for collaborating with company stakeholders to support product design and development activities during New Product Introduction and Continuation processes. You would work hybrid in our Milwaukee or Mayfield Heights locations. You will report to the Global Engineering Team Lead.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support company compliance with product environmental standards and directives. Influence stakeholders and decision-makers to secure support for programs as necessary.

Functional

• Monitor and understand complex regulatory and market drivers and their ability to affect product lines. Work with business partners to assess risk and strategy for supporting compliance of RA products.
• Manage and interpret complex data sets to understand regulatory impact and support decision making.

Leadership

• Lead enterprise-wide, cross functional teams to identify and address product design issues related to global environmental directives, regulations, and standards.
• Identify and work with internal and external groups, including the Global Product Standards & Regulations, Governmental Affairs, and Industry Trade Associations to analyze and communicate regulatory trends and positions, and share information with impacted business groups.
• Develop and implement communication strategies that address product compliance requirements to support internal and external customers.

Interpersonal

• Work within Rockwell Automation to ensure that product designs are compliant with standards and directives to ensure global market access.
• Establish cross-functional relationships with external and internal stakeholders and Trade Associations and Standards Development Committees.

Business

• Plan and execute projects of significant and strategic importance to the corporation.
• Build partnerships with Rockwell Automation leadership.
• Engage Rockwell Automation supply chain stakeholders to facilitate compliance programs.
• Present information to influence stakeholders and drive support for compliance programs on an enterprise-wide basis.
• Manage aggressive objectives in context of higher-level business goals and constraints.

THE ESSENTIALS – YOU WILL HAVE:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

THE PREFERRED – YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Quality or Computer Engineering, Data Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related technical field with knowledge in the application of basic engineering and manufacturing principles, theories, and techniques.
• 8+ years’ experience in Manufacturing/Development Engineering Organization, preferably in an electronics manufacturing organization or environmental compliance programs.
• Proven experience managing projects related to environmental regulations and sustainability with the application of strong project management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to frame and manage complex and ambiguous tasks effectively.
• Fluent in gathering requirements, conducting complex data analysis on large datasets derived from varied information sources, and communicating actionable insights from the dataset.
• Demonstrated application of system thinking and process mapping.
• Advanced experience utilizing Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
• Ability to convey actionable insights from datasets to stakeholders at various levels.
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Ecodesign) and proven experience determining and implementing requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance datasets and their use in environmental software platforms.
• Capable of presenting information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
• Experience in new product development, including utilizing the Rockwell Automation Common Product Development (CPD) Process
• Previous experience with ERP systems such as SAP in an operational setting.
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive change management projects
