Engineering Manager – Systems Integration

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Growth

Build the systems integration team and sub-discipline capability (process automation, functional safety, telecoms, networks, cybersecurity etc).
Set the vision and strategic direction for the engineering group 
Share the Systems Integration group’s vision, mission and strategy and communicate the actions needed to implement these; motivate people to commit. 
Develop GEC growth plans with input from the Systems Integration regional leadership and support strengthening and deepening the use of GEC operations in project execution. 
Support systems integration leadership to prepare short-term and annual workforce plans to identify the number and mix of staff required to meet the demand forecast.
Travel to key systems integration hubs in USA, UK, ME will be required on occasion. 

People and Planning

Create a positive working environment for diverse engineering resources to flourish, ensuring recruitment, selection and development processes are inclusive and free from bias
Support the development of a positive culture in the Chennai office and work with local leadership to attract and retain top talent.
Manage team competency and training and ensure the highest possible standards of integrity, safety, quality and performance excellence.
Direct management of people; including; pay reviews, performance reviews, career progression, training and development 
Determine future resource and capability requirements to deliver current and future projects. Support recruitment and selection of key hires.
Oversee the career development of the team; and provide input into the global talent reviews conducted by systems integration.
Manage and report on the performance of a growing, diverse team; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and wider engineering team members and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team objectives. 
Plan and prioritize work to meet discipline commitments aligned with organizational goals. Look ahead to determine and obtain needed resources to complete plans.
Manage and work within departmental overhead budgets and manage utilisation of resources vs workload.

Engineering delivery and performance

Establish and continuously improve engineering systems and tools required by the engineers to deliver cost effective and competitive engineering execution.
Support engineering connectivity and knowledge transfer with other regions with the goal of maintaining global best practice.
Drive Project Delivery Assurance and ensure the appropriate level of QA/QC is in place on all projects.
Work collaboratively with ops leaders, engineering managers, technical authorities and subject matter experts across the group. 
Ensure discipline engineering integrity is maintained across work scopes.

Proposals Support

Provide engineering support to proposals to demonstrate capability and identify appropriate key engineering resources.
Provide technical input to bids and bid reviews including identification and support of subject matter experts from your team.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Engineering in Control Systems and Instrumentation or related professional degree with consistent outstanding academic record; an advanced degree or MBA is preferred.
Proven experience in building large automation and controls teams (+50). 
Previous operational experience working in a Global Execution Center environment supporting global business growth.
Minimum 15 years in engineering management / project delivery role in area of automation & systems integration, preferably in Oil & Gas, Refining & Chemical, Life Sciences, Mining & Mineral Processing sectors.
Broad and deep understanding of applicable industries and demonstrated networks and relationships. 
Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross collaboratively and create trust with peers and leaders.
