Job Description
Wood is currently recruiting for contract Senior and Principal Technical Safety Engineers to provide services to our Technical HSE Team based in Reading.
You will be working alongside the Design HSE Group, within the Engineering Department, and will liaise with the Group Manager Design HSE. The department sits within the New Energies business of Wood.
Responsibilities
Working within a project team, you will provide the following services:
Writing Health and Safety Plans and Philosophies
Overseeing process safety aspects of design and associated documentation
Interpreting and applying process safety-related legislation and standards
Conducting safety studies and qualitative and quantitative risk assessments
Participating in HAZOP, HAZIDs and LOPA reviews, potentially as Chair
Conducting project audits
Suitable contractors may also perform the role of Lead Engineer in a project environment. This is a technical role directing a team of Technical Safety Engineers in a project environment. In this role you will be undertaking the following activities:
Planning activities and deliverables of your team against project schedule
Meeting project deadlines, milestones and budgets for deliverables
Monitoring and directing the work activities of your team
Liasing with project management and client
Communicating with and co-ordinating work with other engineering discipline teams
Our clients are diverse and range from energy transition start-ups to multinationals.
Project stages vary from conceptual studies through to detailed design and construction, with significant work on Pre-FEED and FEED phases.

Qualifications
Expected:
Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Chemical or Process Engineering
Membership of a recognised professional institution (e.g. Chartered Engineer)
Technical competence in core Design Safety subject areas, notably; Hazard identification, Consequence Modelling, Risk Assessment, Working knowledge of applicable international standards
Experience in the application of Design Safety within a design environment likely to include the following: Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refining, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Carbon Capture/ Hydrogen Production
Analytical and conceptual thinking skills, ability to manage own work and the work of others, plus a strong customer focus and team-working skills
Ability to work to agreed delivery dates while collaborating with others in multifunctional teams.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
Relevant postgraduate qualification in Process Safety
Experience of working in the process industry and energy, oil and gas, refining and petrochemical sectors
Leadership skills and experience
Commercial awareness
Design review facilitation skills (e.g. HAZOP)
